The freestone River Dee begins in the Cairngorm mountain range and flows through stunning scenery and the picturesque towns of Braemar, Balmoral, Ballater, Aboyne, Banchory down towards the city of Aberdeen. The river Dee is highly regarded as one of the clearest rivers in Scotland, during the spring months the river is fed from snow reserves in the mountains and runs gin clear. Fishing small flies for large Atlantic Salmon is what the river Dee is renowned for. 

Our Bespoke salmon fishing experience is designed for everyone, whether you have fishing experience or not, we will ensure that you enjoy the day, learn about the art of spey casting and how to catch salmon on the river Dee.

Spey Casting Masterclass

We will book your days fishing on a hand selected prime beat on the River Dee, where we think there will be the best chance of catching salmon in the conditions of the river at that time. 

 We will provide all premium LOOP fishing tackle and breathable waders to ensure that you have  the best suitable gear to make the most from your day. 

The day begins with some fresh coffee at the idyllic fishing hut on the bank of the river Dee and making a plan subject to the river conditions. We will then head out for a brief Spey Casting Masterclass, breaking down the mechanics of the casting to get our guests exactly where we need to be. Common casts that we will teach you of the day are the Roll Cast, Circle C Cast, Double Spey, Single Spey & Snake Roll cast.    

During the day your guide will help by fine tuning your casting skills and provide detailed instruction of tactics and presenting the fly to ensure that you have the best possible chance of catching salmon.  

 

Guided FLY fishing & Lunch

Fly fishing for salmon is not just about mastering the casting, but also reading the water, mastering the control of the swing and how to present your fly in the perfect way. Our guides will work with you to ensure you understand what we are trying to do and of course be on hand to net your catch. 

There is something tranquil about fly fishing and our guides know when to be on hand and also when to step back and let you take everything in. 

Our delicious lunches are provided by the local restaurant Milton Brasserie, who can cater for all dietary requirements and always provide a range of platters to ensure it meets everyone's taste. From hand made baguettes, salads, home baked sausage rolls, local cheeses, and fresh scones with jam and cream they always hit the spot before heading back out to fish in the river.

We are based on the River Dee, it's our home river and we know it intimately. We can provide access to many private beats from Crathes, Banchory, Aboyne, Dess, Ballater and even Invercauld Castle beat. We will choose the beat based on the time of year, and where we would want to be fishing ourselves to ensure the best possible chance of catching that salmon and sea trout. 

We will collect you from the hotel and drive to the beat, giving a tour of royal Deeside on route to the fishing. All the equipment is provided and casting instruction by your SGAIC & AAPGAI qualified casting instructor and guide.  Riverside deli style lunch on the banks of the Dee and photos of your trip included  ensure you enjoy a truly memorable Scottish salmon fishing experience.
